About JWT Verify

JWT Verify checks supported JSON Web Token signatures and claims for test and debugging workflows. A successful check is meaningful only when the correct trusted key, algorithm policy, issuer, audience, expiry, and application-specific requirements are enforced.

Reference: JSON Web Token specification (RFC 7519)

How to use it

  1. Use a short-lived test token and the expected verification material; never expose production secrets unnecessarily.
  2. Verify the signature with an explicit allowed algorithm, then inspect issuer, audience, expiry, not-before, and required claims.
  3. Repeat validation in the identity library and deployment configuration that will actually accept the token.

Frequently asked questions

Is a valid signature enough to accept a JWT?

No. Verify the allowed algorithm and also validate issuer, audience, time-based claims, key trust, and any application-required claims.

Why should I not accept the algorithm from the token header?

The verifier should enforce its own allowed algorithm policy. Treating an untrusted header as policy can create serious security failures.

Can I verify a token with a decoded payload alone?

No. Signature verification needs the complete signed token and the appropriate verification key or secret.
