Frequently asked questions

Is CIDR Calculator a final answer?

No. It is an estimate based on the inputs and formula shown on the page; verify it against your contract, rules, and circumstances.

Why is the result different from another source?

Inputs, rounding, fees, rates, dates, and formula conventions can all produce different results.

Can I use this for a medical, financial, or legal decision?

Do not rely on it alone. Consult a qualified professional for health, lending, tax, investment, or legal decisions.

IPv4 subnet derivation method

The tool converts the IPv4 address to its 32-bit form, uses the prefix length to form the subnet mask, then applies bitwise network and host masks to derive the network address, broadcast address, address count, and assignable host range.

Example check: 10.0.12.34/20 has mask 255.255.240.0 and network address 10.0.0.0. A /20 has 12 host bits, so it contains 2¹² = 4,096 addresses.
